Procedure
The Ethics Committee (EC) reviews the aims and procedures of research projects to verify the rights and well-being of the research participants.
An ethics vote is required if:
- participants are expected to be exposed to risk
- testing is associated with physical or emotional stress
- participants are not fully informed about the aims and procedures of the study
- participants belong to a vulnerable group (e.g. children)
If none of the above conditions applies to your study, an ethics vote is not required. To check whether your study might need approval by an ethics committee, we offer a systematic self-disclosure survey. Please respond truthfully to all items. If the survey confirms that your study does not pose potential risk to the participants, you will receive a corresponding document. This document can be used as an ethics vote for third party funding agencies.
Who is eligible to get an ethics vote from the Ethics Committee?
The research responsibility lies with a Professor of Faculty IV. This person must be named as the responsible scientist.
The Ethics Committee exclusively reviews projects involving measures of behavioral data from human participants (e.g. surveys, behavioral experiments). The Committee does not evaluate projects involving magnetic resonance imaging or non-human subjects.
